* The Catholic Church initially started in Lau in 1844 with the arrival of Bishop Bataillon, who travelled from Wallis and Futuna with Fr Roulleaux and Fr Breheret

* It is the second largest Christian denomination in Fiji with a membership of 101,050 at the last church census in 2010. The Methodist Church, with 197,900 members, is Fiji's biggest Christian denomination

* The Catholic Church owns 24 schools schools in the country, including Corpus Christi College and Pacific Regional Serminary (PRS)
