FIFTY two men and 26 women have been named in the Suva Volleyball side for this weekend's Vulaca Championship.

The Suva Volleyball Association will be represented by four men's teams sponsored by FBC Radio Station and two women's sides sponsored by FBC TV.

Association secretary Viliame Katia said they had also named an additional 10-men reserve to be on standby should should there be any injuries.

He said they had gone through two full weeks of training in their bid to defend the title.

"We will leave no stone unturned in our preparations. We must defend the Vulaca title," Katia said.

"It has been hard because our clubs have increased and thus our player base, but it is good that we have a big player base," he said.

Katia thanked the hosts of the Vulaca Championship, the Raiwai Volleyball Association, for allowing them to compete in the tournament.

"We will make it count and show everyone that we are the champion association. We also would like to thank our premier sponsor FBC and also our minor sponsors."

He said each of the men's team would comprise 13 players. The teams are 2Day FM, Gold FM, Bula FM and Mirchi.

He added 26 women would play for the FBC TV Black and FBC TV White team.

"There was much animosity created when Suva pulled out of the tournament because we could not field our four teams.

"But that is water under the bridge and we thank the organisers for opening up the tournament again.

"At the end of the day we are representing the best wishes of our affiliates for their players to be given a chance to play at national competition level," Katia said. The Vulaca Championship starts on Friday.
