YOUNG women from Fiji, the Solomon Islands and Tonga came together over the weekend, ahead of the annual Pacific Islands Community Radio Roundtable and Workshop.
The women — a combination of community radio producers and broadcasters, project managers and program officers, gathered at FemLINKPacific's community media centre. The 22 women are putting together strategies on advocacy for the upcoming meeting, confirmed FemLINKPacific's executive director, Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls.
The workshop mentor, Lisa Horiwapu, said this was an important aspect for women around the Pacific because of the awareness it brought to women's status.
"We use radio programs to tell women's stories in order to create awareness on the status of women and to bring an end to the daily injustice women face including poverty and violence," she said.
