A MAN who was unable to pay $500 for selling cigarette rolls was jailed for 90 days yesterday.

Peniasi Rateciavi was charged with one count of selling of tobacco product in small quantity by the Tobacco Unit of the Ministry of Health.

Magistrate Yohan Liyanage asked the accused why he failed to appear in court on two occasions.

Magistrate Liyanage said Rateciavi was fined $200 on the first day the case was called.

However, he said the amount was increased to $500 including court costs when he failed to appear on the next mention date.
