EXPERIENCED players have been named in the western squad for the annual Shop n Save sponsored South versus West snooker clash at the Nadi Sports Club this Saturday.

The West team has roped in players from Tavua, Ba, Lautoka, Nadi and Sigatoka. Veteran and North West tournament winner Suresh Chauhan will lead the charge for the westerners.

The side will include the likes of Fiji number three Mahend Deo, Niazim Ali, Vineel Nand, Shalend Gounder, Vinay Madhwan, Dharam Jeet Singh, Vinesh Prasad, Philip Gock, Mohammed Imran, Pita Tevita, Rajinesh Kumar, Mohammed Jusuf, Shalend Scotty and Ali Boy.

West team co-ordinator Rimal Narayan said the aim was to wrestle the title from the southerners. He said south had been dominating the annual clash lately.

"The South versus West Challenge is very important for us," Narayan said.

"The Southern team has been winning the tournament for the last three years. This is the first time that we will be hosting the event at the Nadi Sports Club. Looking at the first North West tournament on Saturday, we had some young and upcoming players. We want to put up a strong challenge."
