COMMISSIONER Eastern Lieutenant Colonel Netani Rika confirms that housing projects in the Eastern Division are progressing.

The provinces of Lau, Kadavu, Lomaiviti and the island of Rotuma are under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Commisioner Eastern.

Lt-Col Rika said a team delivered housing materials and monitored some of the completed projects in Rotuma last month.

"For the Lau team, they visited the Moala cluster and made their way to Ono-i-Lau delivering and inspecting completed housing projects," Lt-Col Rika said.

The delivery of materials and visits by officials were temporarily halted in December and January as resources were directed to the post-cyclone rehabilitation in the west.

"Now that the MV Iloilovatu is with us, we are using it to deliver our materials and monitor the completed projects."

Lt-Col Rika said $175,000 was allocated to rural housing projects for the Eastern Division.

In other developments, a team had visited the Lamiti foot crossing in Gau that was being constructed by engineers from the RFMF.

"The foot crossing project is progressing well taking into consideration the soldiers' involvement in the rehabilitation work in the Western Division," he said.

"My appreciation goes to the RFMF engineers regiment for their commitment.
