Nadi maintains unbeaten run

NADI maintained its unbeaten run in the National Football League beating an inexperienced Tavua team 3-0 at Govind Park yesterday.

Amani Makoe proved to be the star for the Kamal Swamy-coached Jetset team scoring a goal in each half.

Rusiate Matirerega Nadi's hero in the two previous encounters had a quiet game.

The Tavua team created a few scoring chances in the second spell but could not get the ball past Nadi goalkeeper Beniaminio Mateinaqara.

Nadi should have won the match by a higher margin but squandered many of their opportunities.

Nadi coach Swamy admitted that they lacked coordination when on attack.

Swamy said the boys tried to do too much when inside the Tavua box.

He said they carried the ball longer and did not attempt to take shots at the Tavua goalmouth.

"It is good to get the three points but we could have scored more goals," Swamy said.

"We will have to work on our finishing. The boys made a few errors which we have to rectify."

"When you create the opportunities you have to finish them off. The boys were making extra passes inside the box."

"Some of the players are young and are bound to make mistakes. But the three points means a lot."

Napolioni Qasevakatini opened the scoring for Nadi in the 25th minute.

The former Central College student blasted the ball to the back of the net from inside the box after connecting with a cross from the right flank.

Makoe doubled Nadi's advantage in the 35th minute when he curled the ball past Tavua goalkeeper Maika Nasema from the edge of the box.

Nadi led 2-0 at halftime.

Makoe scored the third goal 20 seconds after the restart striking from close range.

With the win Nadi moves to 16 points ahead of defending champion Ba on 15 points.
