Commission ready to assist

SPORTS administration is one of the areas the newly established Fiji Sports Commission will aim to improve in the country.

After being officially appointed as the chairperson of the Commission yesterday, Peter Mazey said there had been hiccups with sports administration in the past.

He said the commission would assist those sports that needed assistance with administration and could also find new personnel if need be.

"We will aim to assist sports in any way possible," Mazey said.

"We have also seen that there may be a need to assist some sporting bodies in administration," he said.

"In some cases, there are people for the job but they don't have enough time and are just volunteers.

"In the past, the ministry had to assist various bodies that have faced problems with administration."

Mazey added there was a need for people with administration posts to be transparent.

"Transparency is the most important thing in sports.

"Another transparent issue is that if we give sporting bodies fund, we want to see results and we want to see details of how the funds are used and how it was of benefit to the body," he said.
