Seasonal reps Epeli Sikele and Timoci Nakukaimasa combined well to help Hornets win the Cuvu Volleyball Association mini knockout tournament yesterday.

Hornets came from behind to beat Seni Wi by 2-1 in the final at the Cuvu College hard courts.

Seni Wi won the first set to take a 1-0 lead in the match, however, Hornets came back to win the remaining set to win the match.

Association spokesperson Jella Botei said younger players Watisoni Bainimoli and Eapi Deku contributed towards the win by combining well with the senior players.

The women's competition final ended in the same scenario with Seni Wi beating Davetalevu by 2-1.

"The knockout tournament was to decide who will play for the challenge title," Botei said.

"The two finalists in the men's and women's competition will play next week to determine who will hold the challenge title," he said.

He said since the association was established last year, the level of competition had increased significantly.

"The competition has grown to a whole new level this year.

"When we started last year, some teams would always win but now, that is not the case.

"Now we see very stiff competition among the teams and players have lifted their game to a whole new level," Botei said.
