THE Wadigi 7s recorded a slow start with several teams failing to turn up for the pool games at Nadovu Park in Lautoka yesterday.

Favourites Wardens Gold got their campaign off with a winning start.

Wardens Gold defeated Draulu 7-0. Army Green put on a strong show to thrash Nawaka White 26-0.

Tournament coordinator Apimeleki Nasalo said their aim was to generate funds to purchase training gear for the Wadigi team.

He said they wanted to market their players overseas.

"The standard of the tournament is high," Nasalo said.

"All the teams will be featuring in the quarter-finals tomorrow (today). There will be separate divisions so even the teams that lose all their pool games will have something to play for on the second day."

The tournament will move to Churchill Park ground one this morning.
