TEAM Fiji will use the upcoming Fiji Games as a build-up for the Pacific Mini Games (PMG) in Wallis and Futuna.
The XIII Fiji Games will be held from May 10 to 12 at selected venues in Suva. The event was last held in 2010.
The 2013 Fiji Games organising committee chairman Reg Sanday said all 40 national federations affiliated with the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) were invited to take part.
He added it was compulsory for the eight sports taking part in the PMG in September this year to participate at the Fiji Games.
Team Fiji Chef de Mission to the PMG Alini Sovu said four sports namely athletics, weightlifting, beach volleyball and va'a would be using the Fiji Games as their final trials.
"The other sports are also participating as their final competition to see their potential athletes in the team," she added.
Sanday said the Fiji Games helped in training technical officials and strengthened sporting networks in the country.
He said they were seeking financial support to help the national federations prepare for the event.
"The Fiji Games are an important event in Fiji's sporting calendar and also a stepping stone for sports people wishing to represent Fiji in regional and international competitions.
"It's an opportunity to scout talents and bring them to compete in an organised competition."
