THE Fiji Sports Council chairman will chair the newly established Fiji Sports Commission.
Commander Viliame Naupoto, the Minister for Youth and Sports yesterday revealed the first office bearers for the body that would assist with sports development in the country.
"I have appointed Peter Mazey as the Chairperson of the Board and in the interim will act as the Executive Chairperson until the Board appoints a Chief Executive Officer for the Fiji Sports Commission," Naupoto said.
"The other board members are Cathy Wong, David Voss and Sashi Kant Dhanji who are from private sector and as per the Sports Commission Decree," he said.
"The other members of the board are the permanent secretary for Youth and Sports (as the Deputy Chair) Josefa Sania, the permanent secretary for Finance Filimoni Waqabaca, the CEO for the Fiji Sports Council Litiana Loabuka, and yet to be appointed are three members from the Sporting Federations."
Naupoto says the members of the board bring together a good mix of skills and experience in business, sports administration and sports science and medicine.
"I thank them for accepting to serve in the Sports Commission.
"One of the first tasks of the Commission is to organise the Annual Sports Awards.
"This used to be organized by the Fiji Sports Council and FASANOC. It will now be organised by the Fiji Sports Commission," he said.
