THE Bank South Pacific opened a new kindergarten at Sawakasa Village, Tailevu yesterday in an effort to promote early childhood education in Fiji.

Ratu Filimoni Loco Kindergarten School was the second kindergarten to be sponsored by the bank's community project, in partnership with the People's Community Network of Fiji (PCN).

BSP country manager Kevin McCarthy said the proposal was financed following a proposal from PCN.

The bank had allocated $200,000 for charity projects carried out by its 20 branches every year.

"BSP believes that early childhood education is important," Mr McCarthy said. He said the kindergarten would cater for the people of Sawakasa, Lodoni and nearby villages.

School manager Lote Degei said they were fortunate to receive assistance from a leading bank in the country.
