INTEREST is high for the carrom tournament which will be hosted by the North West Billiards and Snooker Association at the Lautoka Club this weekend.
NWBSA president Suresh Chauhan said they had received many enquiries about the carrom event.
"Last year's carrom competition was a huge success amongst all genders," Chauhan said.
"Carrom competitions are held in many countries and it is very popular as a family sport here. We have already had many enquiries from people interested in participating in the carrom event. We hope to start the competition on Saturday but that will depend on the number of entries.
"There are many rules for carom but we will use a simplified one so it does not confuse the players."
The winner of the carrom competition will receive $100 while the runner-up will get $50.
Meanwhile a total of 36 players will compete in the Fiji Gas/Shop n Save Supermarket sponsored snooker championship at the same venue.
The snooker winner will get $200 while the runner-up will collect $100. The tournament will serve as a trial to pick the western team for the South versus West challenge .
