Ministry reaches out

Maciu Malo
Thursday, February 07, 2013

THE SHORTAGE of manpower and resources in the Lands Ministry's Western office were identified as two of the main factors contributing to the delay in services. And in an effort to beef up operations in the west, director Lands Mosese Tagicakibau said five new university graduates would take up positions with the Lautoka office next week.

"We don't have enough manpower to do the required work expected of us," he said.

"Also we lack the resources and we're looking into issues now with five new graduates to be deployed to the Lautoka office together with a vehicle.

"We have 49 staff members in the west and they look after close to 10,000 leases.

"We have also received many reports of illegal operations in the west and this is one area we will focus on."
