Update: 2:18PM THE Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre, in collaboration with the Seismology Section of the Ministry of Lands, has issued a tsunami warning for all of Fiji this past hour.

The two agencies confirmed a potential tsunami was generated following a magnitude 8.0 earthquake near the Santa Cruz Islands in the Solomons at 1.12pm.

"A potential tsunami has confirmed being generated and tsunami warning is now issued for the whole Republic of the Fiji Islands, especially coastal low lying dwellers as we have only one hour left for the first wave to hit our shores," a Ministry of Information statement said.

People are also being advised to move to higher ground and take all necessary precaution.
