Golfers brave the rain

A TOTAL of 109 golfers braved the light showers to compete in the BSP Life Summer Cup last Saturday at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa.

D J Park took out the first round of competition with a score of 65 nett in the A grade.

Losing out on count back were Vijay Goundar and Michael Joe who were placed second and third respectively.

The B grade was won by Ramesh Goundar who came in with a score of 62 nett.

Junior players Jiujiua Leca won second place over Ratu Epeli Nailatikau on a count back after both players finished with a score of 65 nett.

Jarrod Turner (63 nett), William Parkinson (64 nett) and Arvin Kumar (64 nett) finished first, second and third respectively in the C grade.

Rose Sue (69 nett) and J S Kim (62 nett) won the silver and bronze divisions respectively in the ladies category.

Mark Turner and Vijay Goundar each won nearest-to-pin prizes for second and twelfth holes respectively.

Fiji Golf Club spokesperson Kevin Maitava said Summer Cup would be played over a seven-week period.

"The format of 2013 BSP Life Summer Cup will be that stroke events will be played on the first and final Saturdays of the series, while a mixture of stableford, stroke etcetera events will be played on other weeks," he said.

"Best six overall winners per week, regardless of their respective grades will each receive match points for every tournament played and each of the winners plus all the participants will also receive one match point for their participation."

Maitava said the overall and runner-up winners would be determined by their respective overall total match points scored over the seven-week period.
