YET another report of a missing person has been brought to the attention of authorities despite several advice and warnings issued to the general public about travelling out to sea.

Missing is a 34-year-old man of Tabewa Village on Rabi Island who went fishing over the weekend.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed that the man was reported missing on Saturday.

"The man had gone fishing on a blue wooden canoe about eight feet in length and when he failed to return, his wife went to enquire with relatives. She received negative results on her husband's whereabouts from the relatives."

Ms Naisoro said a report was lodged at the Rabi Community Post yesterday morning after which a search was conducted.

"Police officers at the Tukavesi Police Station and the villagers also assisted the officers on the island with the search."

The situation has sparked fresh warnings from authorities for people to take ownership and be extra careful when travelling out to sea as mishaps were bound to happen. "We are once again reiterating the need for people to take ownership of their lives and adhere to advice and warnings because it's for their own safety," Ms Naisoro said.

Meanwhile, the body of an 11-year-old girl of Navatu in Cakaudrove is awaiting a post-mortem examination after she was found floating in a creek at the weekend.
