STRIKER Mavileko Nakama scored a hat trick to guide Ba to a 5-1 victory over Tavua in the Fiji Sun/GP Batteries National Football League at Govind Park yesterday.

The Men in Black got back to winning ways in spectacular fashion outclassing Tavua in rainy conditions.

Ba erased memories of the loss against Nadi in the NFL more than a week ago showing better understanding amongst the players.

The Ba team used the width of the field controlling possession. It was a fiery start with three goals scored within the first six minutes.

Ba team manager Arvind Singh said it was good to get back to winning ways after loss to the Jetsetters.

He said with the victory they had closed the gap at the top of the points table.

"It is always a good feeling to win on home soil," Singh said.

"The boys came back firing after the Nadi game to win the Champion versus Champions title. This win against Tavua is vital as it is a close tussle for the NFL title. We missed some opportunities and coach Yogendra Dutt will be working on that during the next training sessions."

Nakama scored the opening goal for the hosts in the third minute. He doubled the advantage two minutes later.

Against the round of play, Tavua shocked the Ba fans with Saula Matarai getting the ball past Meli Codro in the sixth minute.

Nakama claimed his hat trick in the 24th minute.

Occasional rain during the match made the turf slippery which somewhat slowed the pace of the game. Ba led 3-1 at halftime.

Marika Madigi curled in a free kick from out of the box in the 62nd minute to make it 4-1. Malakai Tiwa got on the scoring sheet netting a free kick in the 83rd minute to seal victory.

Nadi leads the NFL with 13 points ahead of Ba on 12 points.
