REBELS captain Nimilote Lua produced a stellar performance to propel his side to win the Raiwai Volleyball tournament yesterday.

Lua led his troops to a comeback victory over Redbeard 2-1 in the main final to walk away $300 richer.

Rebels lost the first set 9-15 but the experience of Lua proved to be a thorn for the Redbeard team.

He combined well with teammates Neori Buli, Mosese Cola, Yaca Vakayadra, Suliasi Ledua and Saiasi Kolinisau to weave their way back into the game, winning the second set 15-10.

And it was down to the wire in the final set, Lua and his company maintained their calmness to walk away with a 15-9 thriller.

Tournament official Solo Fakauliafa said the final was evenly contested by the two teams.

Both teams contain Raiwai players that are currently preparing for the upcoming Vulaca Championship later this month.

"It was a tough final because both teams have our Raiwai reps," Fakauliafa said.

Rebels beat Gambling City 2-0 in the semi-final while Redbeard defeated Raiwaqa 2-0 in the other top four clash.

"We are preparing for the Vulaca and this tournament was a perfect build up for us. We are pleased with the performance of our players and we hope to further lift our preparation to another level before the Vulaca starts," Fakauliafa said.
