RISING star Rusiate Matirerega's 65th minute strike ended Suva's unbeaten run in the National Football League at Prince Charles Park yesterday.

Matirerega the hero from the Ba fixture last week proved to be the nemesis for Suva scoring the winning goal in Nadi's 1-0 victory.

The vocal home crowd support lifted the Jetsetters in the match. The result moved Nadi four points ahead of defending champions Ba on top of the NFL points table.

Nadi remains the only unbeaten team in the competition.

Suva's Sanni Issa and Samuela Drudru were shut out by the Nadi defence marshalled by young Poasa Bainivalu.

Nadi goalkeeper Ben Aminio Matainaqara was excellent under the crossbar making many good saves.

Suva's stopper Emori Ragata also had a good outing but could not shut out Matirerega's close range strike after initially blocking two attempts.

Matirerega's father Watisoni Voli a former Nadi, Lautoka and national rep scaled the Prince Charles Park perimeter to congratulate his son after he scored the decisive goal.

Nadi coach Kamal Swamy described Matirerega as a player with a special gift.

He said Nadi missed three key players.

"Suva is a great side but we played without some senior boys like Ajesh Narayan, Uraia Loki and Lekima Gonerau," Swamy said.

"But we managed to score the winning goal and maintain our unbeaten run. Congratulations to players and officials for the hard work they have put in."

"Rusiate is a coming up player and has great potential. If he is disciplined, he will go a long way. The national coaches Carlos Buzzetti, Imdad Ali and Ravinesh Narayan are working with him."

"They know what he needs to be developed on. We are happy with the crowd support but need more fans to come and back the team."

Suva coach Gurjeet Singh said the missed opportunities came back to haunt them.

"This is our first loss but there is still a long way to go in the season," Singh said.

"We dominated the match but you need to score goals to win matches. We have another tough game against Lautoka tomorrow (today). Lautoka will be out to prove themselves after recording dismal results."

Today Ba will face Tavua at 2pm at Govind Park. This will be followed by the Lautoka versus Suva clash at 4pm.
