THOUSANDS of devotees turned up at the Sri Siva Subramanya Swami Temple in Nadi yesterday to mark the ending of the 10-day celebration of Lord Murugan's victory over evil, the annual Thaipoosam Thirunaal.
Devotees have been visiting the temple for the past week to take part in prayers and ceremonies devoted to their deity.
Temple member Narendra Reddy said people lined up the halls of the temple to pray for relief from daily struggles.
"These celebrations are a way for people to come to the temple, perform rituals and pray for Lord Murugan to take away the difficulties that we may be facing each day," he said.
He said people had arrived from as far as Suva to be part of the celebrations which would end today.
He said this year's celebrations had been different from previous ones as the number of people turning up for the ceremonies had increased.
Mr Reddy added the number of people would increase on the last day of ceremonies.
