Bridge work in progress

Sunday, February 03, 2013

THE Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has repaired a bridge in Lautoka that is easily flooded during heavy rain.

FRA road management consultant Mike Rudge said immediate improvements had been made to the crossing at Vaivai.

"We have made immediate improvements but as you would imagine any permanent improvements to the bridge would require more time," said Mr Rudge.

He said these improvements would give some temporary relief to the hundreds of residents in the area.

The crossing has always been an area of concern for local bus companies as they struggle to ferry passengers across it.

The road, usually serviced by Pacific Transport Limited buses, is often under water when heavy rain is experienced in Lautoka.
