Update: 9:39PM FIJIANS in the Northern and Western divisions who are gradually recovering from the wrath of Cyclone Evan have been remembered from as far as the United Arab Emirates.

One of the countrys leading global remittance and exchange houses UAE Exchange, this week presented close to $F5000 (AED 10,000) to Fijis resident Ambassador in Abu Dhabi, Robin Nair.

We are indeed grateful to managing director Dr. B. R. Shetty, of UAE Exchange and NMC Group of Hospitals for their kind effort and compassion towards this worthy cause. Indeed Dr Shetty is well-known for his philanthropy, Mr Nair said.

UAE Exchange manager business relations Ramesh Ravindranath said the company felt obliged to provide to the cause, especially since the company had operations in Fiji.

A government statement released today said the embassy was also organising side events to raise funds for those affected by the tropical cyclone, and that it was also liaising with relevant agencies and organisations in the UAE for this.
