THE revived Nasaqalau Cricket Club will play their first game in the 2012/2013 Suva Cricket Association competition this Saturday.
Association president Adriu Misiki said the club used to compete in the weekly competition over two decades ago.
He said the players during those days were the people who had come to Suva from Nasaqalau in Lakeba, Lau.
"Now these players who have revived the club are descendants of those original players," Misiki said.
"The team used to compete in the Association before but then interest died like two decade and now they are back with us," he said.
Nasaqalau will play their first game against Novotel VICC who thrashed Moce I last weekend by 40 runs.
"We are not expecting Nasaqalau to be a threat to our seasoned teams just yet but with more game, they should become better.
"But the other teams should not underestimate Nasaqalau just because they are new to the competition this year.
"The club and the village has produced players like Taione Batina and Taione Cakacaka who went on to become national reps."
Meanwhile, the new holders of the Perpetual Cup, Yadrana will face Moce II in the challenge match this weekend.
"Yadrana caused the biggest upset of the challenge so far when they beat defending champions Army, who had been holding onto the Cup for the past two years.
