Triathlon starts new season

A TOTAL of 13 participants and three teams took part in the first triathlon event of the year last Saturday.

The Fiji Triathlon Association organised business house event was held at the Togalevu Navy base which is 15 kilometres outside of Suva.

Association president Andrew Pene said the highlights of the Togalevu course were the river swim and the mountain bike track to the base of Joskes Thumb which allowed the predominantly Suva City dwellers to experience the freshness of the natural environment at the perimeter of Suva.

Works won the womens category of the Super-Sprint event which involves 400m swim, 10k bike and 2.5k run with a time of 1 hour 15mins and 35 seconds.

"In the Men's category, Navy came first with a time of (50m.24s) and Works was second with a time of 1h, 1m, 16s," Pene said.

"In the individual Super-sprint (400m Swim/10k Bike/ 2.5k Run), Toma Pene came in first with a time of 1hr, 8m, 26s."

Caleb Koroi ousted Petero Manoa and Lui Pene to take out the individual sprint event (750 Swim/20k Bike/5k Run) in a time of 1h, 30m, 45s.

Manoa and Lui finished second and third respectively with 1h, 47m, 46s and 2h, 8m, 47s.
