Sports News in Brief

Team miss gym

THE Digicel Fiji sevens played missed the gym session in the morning after their footwear did not arrive in time. The national side were supposed to have a gym session before hitting the pool and a blowout session later in the afternoon. The Mizuno brand footwear arrived at mid-day and players would have both blades and stud boots to choose from.

Popular Lima

PHOTOGRAPHER Martin Seras Lima is the favourite among the Fiji players. Almost all except the new ones know this Argentine snapper and are more than happy to pose for him. Martin is quite popular with the reporters of the local media as well and keeps everyone's mood up with his funny antics. Martin is a freelancer who works for International Rugby Board, The Fiji Times and other newspapers around the world.

Hobbit fever

IT'S all about Hobbit in New Zealand. Starting from when you board in Air New Zealand flight where Hobbit characters give you emergency and safety tip message on screen to its airports where everything designed is inspired from the Peter Jackson directed movie. There is a big statue of Gollum outside of Wellington Airport and even most shops in Wellington are selling Hobbit merchandise. The movie was made in Wellington, New Zealand and it's fitting they are using the Hollywood blockbuster to market the country.

Lost in the city

I AM not ashamed to say I got lost twice in Wellington City. I went for a walk on Monday night, marking the streets and shops but lost trace of them on my way back to the hotel. In fact I was circling around my hotel and couldn't find the entrance so I had to get help from someone on the street. A person back home recommended no loitering around at night as thugs might attack my 'poor' wallet. Obviously the city is quite big but what's more confusing is the countless streets scattered all over the place.

Wealth of choice

WELLINGTON City is full of restaurants and coffee shops. Prominent cafes like Starbucks is all over the place while McDonald's, Subway and Wishbone is almost in every street. Food prices during events like Wellington 7s soars but there are plenty reasonable options available. There are couple cinemas around as well and a lot of pubs. Wellington City is the place for the night lovers and unlike back home, you have choice here!
