YAHOO has reported fourth quarter revenues of $US1.35billion ($F2.38b) in the fourth quarter, up nearly 2 per cent on the same time a year before.

A one-off accounting charge meant fourth-quarter net income was $US272.3million ($F481.50m), down by 8 per cent compared to $US295.6m ($522.706m) in the same period 12 months earlier. In after-the-bell trading in New York shares in the company gained 3 per cent.

About 700 million web surfers visit its website every month, ranking it among the top in the global industry.

However, it shed more than 1000 jobs during 2012, and has long been divided over whether it should focus on media content or on tools and technologies.
