Hussein wins golf tourney

SUVA businessman Thipait Hussein claimed the Fiji Golf Club (FGC) off-season individual stableford event at the Vatuwaqa golf course yesterday.

The veteran golfer scored 37 stableford points to win the men's A-grade competition followed by Ilaisa Labaibure in second and Praneel Chandra in the third spot.

Both Labaibure and Chandra scored 35 points but the former won on countback.

In the B-grade competition, John Tevita scored 40 points to claim the title followed by Filimone Jitoko on 38 and Wilson Young on 37.

The C-grade went to B J Park who struck an impressive 44 while Mahmood Rahman won the second place on countback from Ji Ho Park after both scored 41 points each.

Rose Sue won the ladies division one on 39 while Daini Jee claimed the division two on 44.

FGC captain Kevin Maitava said 73 golfers took part in the day-long tournament.

He said they would host an individual stableford event sponsored by the FGC tomorrow.

The good weather experienced in Suva helped golfers enjoy yesterday competition.
