YADRANA became the first team to beat Army twice in the same season when they defeated them by 11 runs yesterday to win the Perpetual Challenge Cup in the Suva Cricket Association competition.
Army had been holding onto the challenge cup for the past two years and yesterday at Albert Park, they succumbed to the same side that had beaten them in the final of the Round 1 competition earlier this month.
Yadrana, still a new side given they only joined the competition two season ago, held the underdogs tag in the match but gave their best performance to date.
Team official Adriu Misiki, who is also the president of the SCA, said Yadrana rise in the SCA was a testament of the hard work of the senior players in the side.
He also commended the younger players in the side, most of whom are unknown in the cricket fraternity but hope to make a name for themselves in the sport.
Among them is 23 year Taione Batina who took three wickets to dismiss three key players in the Army side.
"He (Batina) is young but if given the proper guidance, he would become a good national rep," Misiki said.
Yadrana batted first and were all out for 123 runs in their 20 overs with Sekove Ravoka as their top scorer with 23 runs.
Jone Seuvou and Kitione Tavo took three wickets each in the first innings.
In reply, all of Army's batsmen were dismissed for 112 runs.
In other games yesterday, Ono beat Moce II by three runs, Sarafui beat by 53 runs, VICC beat Moce I by 40 runs and the match between BSP Titans and Oneata was still underway when this edition went to press.
