$3m island jetty complete

CONSTRUCTION of the $3million jetty on Rabi Island has been completed.

Fiji Roads Authority's change manager Mike Rudge confirmed the completion of the jetty adding they were awaiting word from the government regarding its opening.

"We will follow up with the Prime Minister's office as soon as possible," he said.

However, Mr Rudge could not confirm the completion of the eight navigational beacons around the Rabi and Kioa regions.

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama was earlier quoted as saying construction was expected to end in February next year and more economic development would take place because of the abundance of resources on the island.

Commodore Bainimarama said this would create more employment opportunities for the islanders and people living nearby.

"We want to enhance development works, so people can make use of available resources," he added.
