MSG skills movement

Tevita Vuibau
Saturday, January 26, 2013

THE thousands of skilled unemployed people in Fiji will soon have new job markets open to them.

This as the MSG countries are expected to finalise their internal systems and processes to facilitate the MSG Skills Movement Scheme (SMS) by January 31. The SMS will see each MSG member state provide a minimum quota of 400 jobs in various sectors with at least 1200 jobs envisioned for Fijians in fields such as teaching, accounting, legal services, engineering, security and mining.

Permanent secretary for Trade and Industry Shaheen Ali said Fijians could be moving into new employment under the SMS as soon as MSG countries had their national systems, processes and procedures in place to facilitate the movement of people.
