THE Tappoo City Blitz Open Chess Championship will kick start the new season for the sport.
With senior players like CM Calvin Prasad, CM Manoj Kumar, Gloria Sukhu, Rajiv Raj and Goru Arvind hoping to share their knowledge to younger and interested players, the Fiji Chess Federation is anticipating a successful year.
Federation assistant general secretary Goru Arvind said they wanted to conduct clinics to upcoming players.
He said the senior players had shown interest in helping and moulding upcoming junior players.
"The Federation hopes to generate more interest in younger players and school students with coaching sessions from all our senior players."
"We are expecting an exciting clash at this event since it is the first for the year."
The 2nd Tappoo City Blitz Open Chess Championship is scheduled for Sunday at 10am.
President Dr Virgilio De Asa will run the 38th annual general meeting on the same day.
Arvind added this year would be a big year for FCF as Fiji would host the Oceania Zonal Chess Championship in May.
