Help for cane growers

Friday, January 25, 2013

SUGAR cane farmers with nearly-expired land leases now have a chance to move to other types of farming under a new program offered by Lautoka based Empower Pacific.

Funded by the European Union, the program offers cane growers a lifeline by incorporating rice farming, beekeeping and other farming initiatives within their cane fields.

Empower Pacific national income generation program manager, Kim Tilbury said the program was open to anyone involved in the sugar industry.

"With all the help that has been going into rehabilitating the sugar industry, this program also offers farmers the needed supplies or resources that would give them a chance to increase their productivity, harvest and income," said Ms Tilbury.
