THE Labasa Tennis Association has sent two of its top junior players to join the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Fiji Tennis Development program in Lautoka.

Paula Vuruna of Holy Family Secondary School and Mosese Ratutu of Saint Mary's Primary School were given the privilege to join the Pacific's finest junior tennis players at the ITF academy.

Vuruna and Ratutu, who have been impressive in recent local tournaments in Labasa, will attend Natabua High School while undergoing the training at the academy for the next two to three years.

Labasa tennis spokesman Ajendra Sharma said the scholarship was an exciting endeavour to boost tennis interest in Vanua Levu.

He said sending Vuruna and Ratutu to Lautoka was a development step for the sport.

"As part of the scholarship terms, Paula and Mosese will attend Natabua High School while undergoing training with the academy," Sharma said.

He said they would return and share their knowledge to players back home.

"At the end of the year the two boys will come back and impart to our local junior players here in Labasa the knowledge gained in Lautoka.

"This will in turn improve the standard of play and the know-how of the game to junior players in Labasa."

He added they were excited after receiving the scholarships and were in Lautoka.
