AUSTRALIA-based Ashween Ram has indicated his interest in representing Fiji during the 2013 Nomura Cup at the Santiburi Country Club in Chiang Rai, Thailand, from November 14-17.
Ashween last played in the Fiji colours in 2009 and 2010.
He is the cousin of former Fiji rep Neelkash Ram.
National Golf Association of Fiji secretary Amitesh Chandra said Ashween was included in the national training squad.
He said they had been monitoring Ashween's weekly results in Australia.
Chandra said Ashween's inclusion in the Fiji team would depend on his performance in the Fiji Open in June.
"If Ashween wins the amateur title during the Fiji Open then he will be guaranteed a spot in the Fiji team," Chandra said.
"If he does not then he will have to compete in more local tournaments to fight for a position against the training squad members."
Olaf Allen Jr leads the charge for a spot in the national side. He won the second 27 holes trials at the Pacific Harbour course in Deuba last Sunday.
The other squad members vying for a spot in the national team include Anuresh Chandra, Ritesh Chandra, Roneel Prakash, Munesh Prasad, Pranil Prasad, Mohammed Sharif, Rajen Singh, Vikash Chand, Asish Chand, Asish Kumar, Baarroon Hussain, Mohammed Faiyaz, Nigel Gounder, V K Pillai, Mohammed Rizwan, Jainendra Prasad, Nilesh Chand and Amitesh.
Meanwhile Allen Jr has made a big leap on the current world amateur golf ranking chart.
The Suva golfer moved up 404 positions after finishing 23rd in the Australia Masters of Amateurs Championship in Melbourne recently.
He is now ranked 700. Anuresh is next on 2304 followed by Ronnel on 2888, Munesh on 5394, Amitesh on 5431 and Hussain on 5589.
