Awards a marketing opportunity

AWARDS ceremonies like the 2012 AON Excellence in Tourism event were not only important to acknowledge the efforts of workers and organisations but also to provide unique opportunities to market products and services.

This was the view of Tourism Fiji chairman and managing director and Air Pacific CEO David Pflieger.

Speaking at a press conference to announce the nominees for excellence in tourism last year, Mr Pflieger said the AON Excellence in Tourism Awards was one of the most important events on the tourism calendar.

The AON Excellence in Tourism Awards will be held at the Sofitel Resort and Spa on February 22.

Tickets go on sale today at Tourism Fiji offices and selected outlets.

"Just based on the response of the number of people that applied, shows the importance of awards," he said.

"People don't set out just to win awards, they basically use awards as a reflection of how they're doing.

"So whether it's a resort, hotel, transport provider or inbound tour operator the fact that we have awards gives people something to strive for.

"It's also a reflection on how their peers in the industry view them and it helps to market, not only themselves, but also Fiji."
