THE national men's hockey side is concentrating on goalscoring as they prepare for Round 2 of the FIH (International Hockey Federation) World League.
Competition will be held in India and the men's side — ranked 71 in the world — is pooled with hosts India (11th), China (18th), Ireland (15th), Bangladesh (40th) and Azerbaijan (38th). Team captain Hector Smith Jr said they managed to score a lot of goals in Round 1 and the Oceania Pacific Cup that was played together in Suva last month but Round 2 will be a different playing field.
He said the national coach — his father Smith Sr — was working on improving their play in the beginning of the match. "At the moment we are concentrating on the start of the game," Smith Jr said.
"We don't want to play catch-up hockey and that is why we are concentrating on scoring first," he said.
"The team that scores first gains the advantage and we want to be that team."
