LAUTOKA rugby 7s fans will witness another feast of talent when top local teams battle for the $7000 prizemoney on offer at the Waidigi 7s tournament.

Tournament organiser Apimeleki Nasalo says 48 teams are participating and games will be held at Churchill Park.

He said top teams that had confirmed participation included the star-studded Police team that had former national 7s players such as Sitiveni Waqa, Sakenasa Aca and Peni Gaunimeke.

Nasalo said former national 7s reps Pio Tuwai and Samu Saqiwa would also feature for the Westfield Babas.

"This tournament will feature local 7s giants," he said.

"The first 48 teams to pay their entry fees of $300 will be allowed to play. This competition is also a good opportunity for the players to showcase what they have against the best players in the land."

Nasalo said one of the objectives of the competition was to expose upcoming talents in Lautoka.

He said the host team would also have the opportunity to prove their supremacy after winning the Adi Salusalu 7s competition that was held last October.

"The money earned from this tournament will be used to purchase rugby facilities for the Vuda Blues rugby team," he said.

"We will also be fielding a team and like other participating teams, our aim is to win the top award.

"Our team is made up of Lauwaki Village boys here in Lautoka and our aim is to expose these boys."

He said some Vuda Blues players that had made their mark in the national 7s team included Jo Uluivuda, Inoke Turuva, Akuila Tuinasau and Apakuki Vuaviri.

Teams need to pay their entry fees before Thursday next week. Organisers can also be contacted on: Nasalo (9327684), Sulu (86524229), Seru (8471936) or Rusi(9501339).
