FOUR people charged with the alleged murder of a 37-year-old man of Nanuku settlement in Vatuwaqa have been released on bail by the High Court in Suva.
Samuela Vakaruru, Meli Batiria, Saini Finau and a juvenile appeared before Justice Paul Madigan yesterday.
Vakaruru, 31, Finau, 21, Batiria, 21, and a 17-year-old are each charged with one count of murder.
Justice Madigan ordered the accused persons to report to their nearest police station every Monday and Thursday, and not to obtain a passport.
He also ordered the four to appear in court when the case is called.
Vakaruru, Finau and Batiria produced their sureties in court with $750 surety each while the juvenile provided his sister with $500 as his surety.
Justice Madigan told the juvenile to stay away from trouble and to contain himself at his sister's residence in Nasinu.
The four allegedly assaulted the deceased after accusations were levelled against the latter for trying to steal a radio from one of the accused person's house.
The accused and the deceased lived in the same neighbourhood.
The deceased developed breathing complications after the alleged assault and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital. The case will be called again on February 15 for mention.
