TRADE unionist Daniel Urai appeared at the Lautoka Magistrates Court yesterday for an alleged drink-driving charge.
Appearing before Magistrate Sujeewa Nishanka, Mr Urai was charged with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol. The court heard that on December 21, last year, the trade unionist was allegedly driving along Vitogo Pde in Lautoka while under the influence of alcohol.
According to an initial breathalyser test, Mr Urai's blood alcohol content was above the legal limit.
His lawyer Navinesh Nand requested that his client's plea be deferred on the grounds that they had yet to be served with documents outlining the former politician's previous convictions.
He argued that they needed the documents to determine the processes on which they would proceed with the case.
Taking on board Mr Urai's application, Magistrate Nishanka gave prosecution 14 days to give the documents to Mr Nand. The court also ordered a $1000 bail bond to be issued for Mr Urai.
The case has been adjourned to February 6.
