FIJI'S top ranked amateur golfer Olaf Allen Jr cemented his spot in the national team for the 2013 Nomura Cup after topping the second trials at the Pacific Harbour course in Deuba on Saturday last week. The Suva player extended his lead to 44 points.

He carded 75 in the first 18 holes and then recorded even par in the next nine holes.

National Golf Association secretary Amitesh Chandra finished second during the trials. He trails Allen Jr with 34 points followed by Roneel Prakash in third spot with 30 points. NGAF secretary Chandra said the national training squad was made up of 18 members. He said the squad would be reduced in March.

"Olaf played well and looks to be on track to make the team for the Nomura Cup," Amitesh said.

"He is surely leading by example as he is the best amateur player in the country. The outing at Pacific Harbour was very tough.

"It was very hot but the boys kept their cool finishing off well. The Pacific Harbour course is now getting back to where it was 20 years ago. It is in top condition. The NGAF will hold another trial there in May."

The next trial will be held at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club in Nadi next month.
