LABASA moved to the fourth spot on the Fiji Sun/GP Batteries National Football League points table following the 2-0 win over Lautoka at Churchill Park yesterday.

After a disappointing first round result on home soil, the northerners made it back-to-back victories on Viti Levu, beating Nadroga 4-3 on Saturday and the Blues yesterday.

Labasa defended well in the match against the Sugar City side locking striker Valerio Nawatu.

Former Suva rep Joseph Mishra made up for his miss in the 77th minute, scoring a minute later after connecting from close range.

Replacement Filipo Daugunu shocked the home fans in the 89th minute to seal victory. Daugunu soared above the Lautoka defenders to nod in a free kick.

Labasa Football Association president Dip Narayan said they were glad to return home with maximum points from two matches. He said they had completed their mission for the weekend.

"We are happy to go away from Viti Levu with six points," Narayan said.

"We have some new faces in the team so it is not easy to win two 90 minute games in as many days. When we got to Viti Levu was the mission was to win both games.

"We lost twice on the opening weekend.

"Our coach Arthur Simmons is new to the players but we managed to build a winning combination.

"Joseph proved that he is a worthy recruit. He was a thorn for the Lautoka defenders. For the fans they should support the team

"Many were disappointed after the opening round losses but they need to remain loyal to the team."

Interim Lautoka coach Jerry Ladawa said fatigue would have been a factor which contributed to the loss.

"The boys seemed to be tired after playing on Saturday," Ladawa said.

"Labasa was a better side. We will now have to lift the morale of the boys at training. They should be on the right track when they are fit. For the Blues fans they should not be disappointed. There is still a long way to go."
