A GROUP of youths in Macuata have stepped in to help parents send their children to school this year.
The youths of Lakeba Village in the district of Namuka organised a volleyball competition throughout the Christmas break to raise funds for the children's fees.
Youth leader Saimone Nakaikirini said they decided to help parents in the village after seeing the struggles faced by some over the past years.
He said some parents usually sent their children to school in the second week of school.
Mr Nakaikirini said the youths became aware of the hardships some parents faced after speaking to a few of them.
He said the youths decided to organise a volleyball tournament every Friday to raise funds for school fees.
The competition attracted youths from nearby villages and in the process the youths raised about $200 every week.
