Back to school with a smile

THE financial weight on parents to send their children back to school this year has been eased a little with the help of Save the Children Fiji (SC Fiji).

SC Fiji gave out stationery packs and school bags to needy children in the Central Division at its headquarters yesterday.

SC Fiji CEO, Chandra Shekhar said the stationery packs were matched accordingly with a list provided by the Education Ministry and booklists provided by the schools.

Mr Shekhar said students whose parents earned a total combined income of less than $150 a week were eligible for the stationery kits.

"Priority will be given to students from the poorest families and parents with special needs," he said.

Parent Milika Mei, whose son starts Class 1 this year, said she was happy, relieved and grateful to SC Fiji.
