Prison officers dismissed

THE prison break at the Naboro Corrections Centre, particularly that of the five escapees last year, was a result of negligence on the part of the officers.

Fiji Corrections Service spokeswoman Ana Tamani said their investigations also revealed the failure to follow basic standard operating procedures.

She made the comment after two prison officers were dismissed from their duty following the outcome of the investigation into the escape of five inmates from the Naboro Medium Facility last September.

"Two officers have been dismissed from the service as a result," Mrs Tamani said.

She said during a FCS command meeting in Korovou, Commissioner of Prisons Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu instructed that this year the FCS would go back to basics in terms of operations within corrections facilities.
