Man awaits fate

A man accused of raping his 14-year-old daughter in 2006 has been found guilty by the Lautoka Magistrates Court.

Appearing before Magistrate Mosese Naivalu, the 40-year-old man was convicted of raping the now 20-year-old.

According to court records, the man was with his daughter at their home when the incident occurred in September, 2006.

Following his first appearance in the Tavua Magistrates Court in 2007, the accused had also faced further charges of breach of bail after he escaped from the authorities.

According to Divisional Police Prosecutor West Assistant Superintendent of Police Anil Prasad, the man was arrested late last year after being on the run for more than four years.

He is being held at the Lautoka Corrections Centre awaiting his final sentence.

The accused will be sentenced on February 14.
