THE fate of two young men who pleaded guilty to burglary and theft will be known next week.

Alipate Koliloa and Viliame Savou broke into the house of 50-year-old Nigel Dowpejwell during the height of TC Evan.

They appeared at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday before Magistrate Alipate Mataitini.

The court heard that about 8am on December 18 last year, Koliloa and Savou, both 19-year-old students of Vatuwaqa, broke into Mr Dowpejwell's vacant house.

At the time, Mr Dowpejwell and his family were in Perth, Australia.

Police prosecutor, Caroline Fisher informed the court that Debby Mua, the complainant who was looking after the house, conducted a random check of the house after Tropical Cyclone Evan and discovered some items missing. These included a laptop, cameras, liquor and food. The stolen items were valued at $4383.

Ms Fisher said the matter was reported to the police and the accused were arrested.

They admitted the offences. Magistrate Mataitini deferred the matter to January 18 for sentencing.
