AS Fiji prepares for the 2014 general elections, calls have been made for women in the country to become more visible as leaders.

Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Jiko Luveni said in an interview that she wanted to see an increase in the number of women in parliament.

"Women need to be engaged in people-centred development programs so that the voters will see what the women can do," Dr Luveni said.

"The onus is on women to convince the voters that they can become good parliamentarians."
