Update: 6:04PM AS Fiji moves towards elections in 2014, calls have been made for women to become more visible as leaders.

Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation Dr Jiko Luveni in an interview said she would like to see an increase in the number of women in parliament.

Dr Luveni said women need to be engaged in people centred development programs so that the voters will see what the women can do.

She said the women in Fiji have the potential and capacity to work with the communities very closely.

Dr Luveni said the onus is on women to convince the voters that they can become good parliamentarians.

She said her ministry stood ready to provide necessary assistance.
